I help academics survive and thrive in academia. You got into this profession because you think it is important. You have important contributions to make. It’s a demanding job. It can be difficult to juggle your myriad responsibilities and to keep your focus on what’s really important in the face of the immediate demands.
I offer 2 different services depending on your needs: Guide for the Journey is for regular coaching support over a period of at least 6 months; Wayfinding is a stand-alone service that helps you clarify your priorities and set a course. I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation to help you decide if this is right for you. Times offered are on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
A Guide for the Journey
If you have a sense of what your priorities are and want support to figure out practices that will help keep you on track, and deal with stuff that comes up, A Guide for the Journey is the service for you. You might be focused on a specific project like writing a book or keeping a big research project on track. Or, you might use this service to help you establish sustainable practices as you start a new job, return to work after parental leave or long term sick leave, or take on a leadership role. My approach is ADHD friendly.
Fee: £900 for 6 months + applicable taxes*; can be paid in 6 instalments of £150.
You commit for 6 months and we meet fortnightly for about 45 minutes. This initial commitment will take you through at least one transition between semesters (or between a busy teaching semester and the long summer break). I hold onto the big picture of what’s important to you and what you are trying to achieve in the medium to long term while we focus on the part of the path that’s right in front of you. What went well over the last couple of weeks? What isn’t going well? What unexpected thing do you need to deal with? This service includes a full membership of the Academic Writing Studio so you can attend A Meeting With Your Writing and use the other resources of the studio if appropriate.
While you might extend your commitment beyond the initial six months, I expect you to feel confident carrying on with less support within about a year. I have the capacity to take on 3 more clients located in the UK/Europe. Book a free consultation to discuss your needs, or fill in the form, pay, and I’ll get you set up.
If you would like some help with setting priorities and making the big decisions, Wayfinding is what you need. This service combines written reflection with a 60 to 90 minute coaching session. The focus is on the big picture of what’s important to you and setting a course for the medium to long term. In the coaching session I will help you make some decisions about how to set off on the path to that destination. I recommend Wayfinding if you are planning a sabbatical, anticipating applying for promotion or a grant, or feel like you’re losing touch with the things that make this job meaningful for you. It can also be useful when you have too many projects on the go and need help prioritizing, creating a publishing strategy, and putting your new plan into action.
Fee: £300 + applicable taxes*
This is a stand-alone service though some clients use Wayfinding as a personal annual review. I can help you figure out how you want to respond to institutional demands without having an interest in you responding in any particular way. Unless something happens that requires you to completely rethink your priorities, I wouldn’t recommend it more frequently than annually.
Wayfinding includes a Foundations membership of the Academic Writing Studio to provide minimal support in implementing your vision. If you require additional support, upgrade your membership so you can attend A Meeting With Your Writing (£22/mo), all Studio members can book ad hoc 1 hour coaching sessions for an additional fee of £95 as needed.
The first stage of the Wayfinding process is asynchronous. The synchronous coaching session will be on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Although I’m based in the UK, I offer most of my services online or over the phone so it doesn’t really matter where you are located as long as we can make the time zone thing work.
