Having observed the reaction to news that individuals who do not have Facebook accounts nevertheless have a “shadow profile” on Facebook, I have made the decision NOT to install a Facebook pixel on this site. This means that Facebook does not track your visits to this site and that I cannot target Facebook ads based on criteria like “people who share characteristics with visitors to your website”.
I do use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). The data Google provides to me is aggregated and anonymized. I make very limited use of the analytics data mostly to made decisions about where to put my energy in terms of social media. I have also selected the options that minimize how much data Google collects and how they associate it over time.
The legal basis for collecting this analytics data is legitimate interests. The data collected is not personal and helps me run my business better. You have limited ability to provide consent and still use the website. Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States . Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators (that’s me) and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. That means it won’t remember you were here and autofill the URL and a few other somewhat convenient things.

My business is run virtually. This means that any services or products you purchase from me will require providing contact information. I use an email list to deliver some of my services. Forms on this website which collect personal data will have information about why the data is collected, the legal basis for doing so, and will seek your consent where this meaningful. Where appropriate, you will also receive an email with further information about how your personal information is used, what choices you have about how to withdraw consent (and the consequences of doing so in relation to purchased services).
